I'm almost done reading John Harrington's Best Business Practices for Photographers
This book is terrific for those of us trying to do well with the business end of the photo biz, but could use a little coaching. While Harrington's book inspires an attitude change in it's readers, if need be; the reader must keep in mind that he makes, very likely, a six-figure income with his camera. In other words, it's not necessarily the best book for a photographer starting out. However, Harrington will get the beginners head pointed in the right direction. For instance, early in the book, Harrington makes it clear that we do not "sell" our images, we "licence" them to be used for a specific purpose for a specific length of time. -I know that statement seems trivial, and elementary, but the shift of concept in my mind has really changed the way I approach the negotiations over my images.

This book is full of sample contracts, useful legal tips, and reads like a photo-adventure story at times, and a photo-biz play book at other times. . .

It's a must read for anyone selling their craft!
-E!

Another great one is "The Business of Studio Photography" by Edward R. Lilley. It really opened my eyes to what it takes to start a successful photography business (it focuses on studio photography but much of it applies to any photo business). I highly reccommend it to anyone even considering making money with their photography, he helps you understand what it takes to be a professional photographer who makes a living with his camera vice a amatuer making money on the side.
