at Wright-Patterson AFB near Dayton OH is an airplane junky's dreamland, perhaps second
only to the Smithsonian Air and Space Museum among aircraft collections here in the U.S. 4 large hangars house
aircraft dating from the early days of flight up to present day, and an additional 2 hangars on
an active duty portion of the base contain the Presidential and experimental aircraft collections.
Entry to these two hangars is by bus from the main museum and requires I.D.

1. Bockscar, the second B-29 to drop an atomic bomb on Japan.
2, 3. The Doolittle Goblets - 9 remained upright when we visited in October 2009.
4. The Cold War gallery.
5. Sam Two Six thousand - the Boeing 707-320B that served presidents Kennedy, Johnson and Nixon
is best known for transporting Kennedy to Dallas TX on November 22, 1963 and returning the body
of the assassinated president back to Washington later that day, along with newly sworn president
Lyndon Johnson.
6. The "Hanoi Taxi" was the first aircraft to fly into Hanoi and repatriate U.S. POWs upon the conclusion
of the Vietnam War.
7. B2 bomber.
8. Apollo 15 command module.

I love visiting the Air Force Museum, I lived next to it for aout five years and visited it often. Looks like it has changed a lot (I moved away in 2003). I'll try to dig up some of my old pics and post them soon. Thanks for sharing, I want to get back for a visit!
